Staff Software Engineer - Full Stack
The Role:
We’re looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join our engineering team as a senior individual contributor and technical leader. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys building and shipping software while also helping a team make better technical decisions.
You’ll work across the stack-from React applications and Python services to AWS infrastructure and system architecture. You’ll own complex technical initiatives, help shape how our systems evolve, and provide guidance and mentorship to engineers across the team.
This role will also include some customer-facing exposure. You may occasionally work directly with customers to understand technical requirements, troubleshoot complex issues, gather feedback, or help communicate how our technology solves their needs.
We’re looking for someone who can move comfortably between writing production code, designing systems, debugging infrastructure, reviewing technical approaches, helping other engineers grow, and engaging thoughtfully with customers when needed.
Responsibilities:
Build and ship product. Design, implement, test, and deploy customer-facing features and platform improvements across our full stack.
Own complex technical initiatives. Take ambiguous or technically challenging problems from initial design through production rollout and ongoing operation.
Provide technical leadership. Help the team make thoughtful decisions around architecture, APIs, data models, infrastructure, reliability, and engineering practices.
Stay hands-on. Write production code, participate in code reviews, debug issues, and contribute directly to the systems you help design.
Improve AI quality. Help establish practical approaches to prompt iteration, offline and online evaluations, regression testing, monitoring, and measuring the quality of AI-powered features.
Raise the engineering bar. Identify opportunities to improve code quality, developer experience, testing, observability, performance, reliability, and operational maturity.
Guide and mentor engineers. Help teammates work through difficult technical problems, provide constructive feedback, and help engineers develop stronger technical judgment.
Drive architecture. Design systems that are pragmatic today while creating a strong foundation for future scale and complexity.
Improve our infrastructure. Help evolve our AWS environment, deployment processes, CI/CD systems, observability, security practices, and infrastructure-as-code.
Engage with customers when needed. Participate in select customer conversations to understand requirements, investigate technical issues, gather feedback, and help translate customer needs into technical solutions.
Collaborate across functions. Work closely with product, design, customer-facing teams, and other stakeholders to translate business and customer needs into effective technical solutions.
Create clarity. Break large or ambiguous problems into actionable plans and communicate technical tradeoffs clearly to engineers, customers, and non-technical stakeholders.
Own outcomes, not just code. Help ensure the systems and features you build are reliable, maintainable, measurable, and successful in production.
Requirements:
8–10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including experience operating as a senior or technical lead engineer.
Strong full-stack engineering experience, with depth in both frontend and backend development.
Bonus: experience working with Healthcare SaaS.
Strong experience with React and modern frontend development practices.
Strong experience building backend services and APIs using Python.
Significant experience designing, deploying, and operating systems on AWS.
Experience with cloud infrastructure, networking, containers, CI/CD, observability, and infrastructure-as-code.
Hands-on experience building with AI/LLM systems in production or near-production environments.
Experience with prompt engineering and prompt iteration, including designing prompts for reliability, consistency, and structured outputs.
Experience creating or working with LLM evaluation frameworks, including test datasets, quality metrics, regression evaluations, human review, or automated judging approaches.
Strong understanding of distributed systems, APIs, databases, system design, performance, scalability, and reliability.
Experience making architecture decisions and evaluating technical tradeoffs.
A track record of shipping meaningful features and systems to production.
Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction without relying on formal authority.
Strong debugging and problem-solving skills across application and infrastructure layers.
Ability to work effectively in environments where requirements may be evolving or ambiguous.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to interact effectively with customers and translate between technical and business needs.
